All golf courses use a standard golf handicap system for playing golf, which is used in tournaments and matches. The main idea in using the handicap system is to make it an even playing field to level the game, which makes the competition even more competitive.

To determine the handicap of a golfer is based on the difference between the score and par achieved from playing in the last 20 rounds. The golf handicap is then evaluated from the 10 games of the 20 that are the lowest. All games take place on 18 hole golf courses and should be associated to only one season. Fewer games may also be accepted by some of the golf associations. Having a handicap is important when playing against other golfers as it offers fair play.

A handicap that is given to a golf player is numbered from 1 to 36, where the lowest handicap is number 1 and the highest 36. There is an exception where a scratch golfer, known as a scratch player, doesn’t have a handicap,

When playing golf these handicaps take into effect in determining a difference between your handicap and your opponent’s handicap. For example, if your opponent has a handicap of 20 and you have a handicap of 10, then your opponent is allowed 10 extra shots during the 18 hole course.

By keeping track of your golf handicap and in using the golf handicap system, will allow fair game play in matches against other golf opponents. If you have joined a golf course, they more than likely will have a golf handicap system in place to keep track of in tournament plays which is recognized by golf associations and golf courses.
